Sant'Anatolia di Narco-Spoleto section

The Spoleto-Norcia was a narrow-gauge railway line, inaugurated in 1926 and discontinued in 1968. It allowed to connect the settlements of the Nursina plain and Valnerina to the Umbrian Valley and the city of Spoleto.

The route allows you to reach Spoleto starting from the parking lot of the former railway in Sant’Anatolia di Narco and following the signs of the CAI path “SN”.
Following this path, you will ascends the ridge of Mt. Piano by a complex system of tunnels and helical viaducts (to be carried out equipped with a flashlight), which in ancient times allowed the train to overcome important differences in height even with imperceptible gradients of the railroad track.
This is followed by the great Caprareccia Tunnel, a large work about 2 km long that makes it possible to cross the Forca di Cerro pass: inside it it is possible to observe small stalactites and a colony of bats, located especially in the central section of the tunnel.
Once through the tunnel, it is then possible to cross other large viaducts that give the visitor landscapes of great beauty, before reaching the city of Spoleto near the old train station, now the Spoleto-Norcia Museum.
